Lampeter Campus

Progress update: 18 September 2026

UWTSD is pleased to share an update on developments since the announcement that the University and Ceredigion County Council are working together to progress their shared ambition for the campus to become a hub for post-16 vocational education and skills. 

Education: UWTSD, Coleg Sir Gâr/Coleg Ceredigion, and Ceredigion County Council are collaborating to understand the vocational curriculum currently being delivered in Ceredigion. An analysis of regional employers’ skills needs has been conducted by the Mid-Wales Regional Skills Partnership to inform our planning, and a collaborative post-16 vocational delivery plan for the region is in development. This will identify which courses can be delivered from the campus from September 2027. 

The campus also continues to support educational activity, for example the National Sabbatical Scheme for Teachers, and accommodation for our Archaeology students undertaking excavations. 

The Council has also purchased Fferm Llettytwppa adjacent to the Lampeter campus, which will support the proposed courses in agriculture. Ceredigion County Council’s agricultural apprenticeship courses have already commenced at the farm. 

Conferencing/events: The University continues to host events and conferences on the campus, including residential, immersive Welsh learning courses.  

Relatedly, an application to the Mid Wales Growth Deal is in development, to seek funding for the development of facilities to support sustainable rural enterprise from the campus. This funding is planned to contribute towards the refurbishment of the historic heart of the Lampeter campus, notably the Old Building, and the Lloyd Thomas Building, and will seek to support the implementation of a “farm-to-fork” model in conjunction with Fferm Llettytwppa and regional providers. 

Community facilities: UWTSD and Ceredigion County Council are also collaborating to develop an enhanced sporting offer for the campus and region, with the ambition to deliver new facilities that would be available for learners and the community alike.
